It’s never too late or early to consider who we would like to be, or what we would like to experience in our personal and professional life.
‘When we fail to plan, we plan to fail’ – this is a very common saying. Isn’t it?
Going forward, my encouragement is that we resist having just head knowledge of many life changing principles.
Knowledge is power, only when acted upon.
Champions, irrespective of their fields, win by engaging in certain simple daily activities, even before they show up in the competition or life arena.
One of the habits of champions is their ability to set goals or standards for themselves.
They believe in themselves, and focus their energy daily on going in the direction of their goals.
By so doing, we too can see the end of the race, even before we embark on it.
GOALS!!!
I must tell you that, initially I felt like so many others who wondered – ‘what is this fuss about goal setting?’
Now I know better, and the fact is that, goal setting will transform your life to what you have always desired.
There are uncountable resources describing what goals mean. So I will not delve into definitions in this write-up.
I enjoin you to simply be very clear about the outcome(s) you desire, in your personal and professional life, whether for short or long term.
My candid suggestion is that, from today you start or continue setting goals in any life area, commit to working on your goals and watch your life blossom.
Set goals in respect of your personal growth, career, marriage, family, relationships, health and fitness, business, finance, spiritual or any other aspect of life important to you.
I have come to realize (in the course of my work) that, the mere mention of the word ‘goal’ leave many stressed, because they have linked it with previous attempts at achieving some things, and resulting failures.
-Please note that, what we usually refer to as ‘failure’ is part of success. YES!
Please do this simple exercise;
Think of a time in the past or today, that you have experienced failure, and evaluate it again. Ask these questions and any other…
… is there any new thing I learnt from that ‘failure’?
…will that experience make me act differently and better in future?
…am I better positioned to advise others because of that experience?
…does the experience better connect me with the fact that I am human?
…do I now have more empathy and compassion in dealing with others?
Back to goals!
Goal simply describes outcome, result or target focused on, at different points in our lives.
-Our target determines the actions we should daily engage in.
When we spell out our targets, and are committed to them, the tendency of self-sabotaging our targets is very low.
We should not forget that all causes have effects, and our actions lead to definite outcomes.
There are lots of things, in this time and age, calling for our attention consistently, and only those that can deliberately pin down those few things that are of utmost importance to them, concentrate their energy to those few things, can successfully make it from where they are currently, to where they desire to be.
No one succeeds by accident.
We can only make the impact we desire, by consciously working on what we deem important.
Our transformation depends on the goals we set for ourselves (having asked and answered certain critical life questions), and our commitment to work on these goals, without giving up.
You too can win, even before the race commences – set your goals.
